PREGNANCY AND SEX
Most couples often wonder if they can still have sex when they first find
out they are pregnant. It is very safe to have sex during the whole
pregnancy. They may find some difficulty in some of the positions but there
are otherS to try. Depending on how big and how uncomfortable you may get,
you can still have a very healthy sex life. The baby is protected by
amniotic fluid in the womb, by your abdomen, and by a mucus plug which seals
your cervix and helps guard against infections.
When sex is not safe.
History of premature birth or labour
History of miscarriage
If your water has broken
If you experience vaginal bleeding or have any unknown discharge
If you have a low-lying placenta
If you have a incompetent cervix or you have started to dilate
If you have a sexually transmitted disease
Changes expected with sexual activity
Fatigue or exhaustion
Raging hormones, tender breasts
Self-conscious about weight gain
Positions like missionary can be uncomfortable. You can consider
using side-by-side, women-on-top, or maybe doggy.
There will be in increase of blood flow to the pelvic area that can
lead to swollen genitals and will increase the sensation and desire.
However some women may find this to be uncomfortable and may not want to
have anything to do with sex.
Good things to having sex while being pregnant
It can relieve muscle cramps in your legs
It can loosen muscles in your back caused from pressure in your spine
It can get your heart pumping. Good blood flow is good for your body
and for your baby
It can induce labour at the end of your pregnancy. So if you are
close to your due date or are over your due date and want to get things
started try having sex. It may help or it may not help. But at least you
are having fun in the mean time.
Unless your doctor advises you not to have sex during your pregnancy. It
is safe to have for both you and your baby. Follow your sex drive and see
what happens. If the changes in your body, changes of sexual desire, and the
aches and pains of pregnancy causes the sexual activity to stop, just
remember that it is only temporary and will resume after the baby is born.
